Hot Summer Entertaining Trends 2016

So the start of the great British summer brings the start of the great British garden party. Whether you prefer chin-wagging by a fire pit or sipping cocktails on a lounger, we’ve picked out the best trends for entertaining to make your garden party hot, hot, hot this summer.

#1 Fusion Foods

A British garden party wouldn’t be complete without a BBQ, so get inspired by the ‘cook out’ experts on the other side of the world and make sure you include some Kangaroo or Fish in your selection.

Food blogger HomeMade by You has some great tips on how to channel your inner Aussie and how to ditch the ketchup:

“Australia prides itself on having the best Southeast Asian cuisine outside of Southeast Asia – and that extends to the barbecue, too. So ditch the ketchup, park the potato salad and reach for fragrant Thai and Indonesian flavours instead, like this ginger and lime BBQ mackerel recipe with soy sauce and cucumber ribbons.

#2 Sharing Platters

To complete the perfect outdoor party you need the perfect presentation. It’s time to ditch the traditional heavy-duty dinner plates or grease reflecting paper plates. This summer it’s all about sharing plates, especially Mediterranean or Pan Asian.

Denby Always Entertaining Range

Modern trends for relaxed, often bowl-based meals and our increasingly global food tastes mean that informal dining and entertaining has overtaken more formal meal occasions. Denby’s Always Entertaining range features four of Denby’s contemporary glazes, with stunning mix and match colours, all completely multifunctional – great for serving everything from deli, Italian and salads to traditional buffet and Asian dishes.’ Denby Designer.

#3 Authentic Tools

Whether you’re cooking over gas or charcoal source some hardwood briquettes, logs or chips to add the authentic smoky flavour to your dishes. Don’t forget to scrub the hot grating with a wire brush before you put your food on to get those essential neat grill marks. Use a grilling basket for those veggies and get the smoky flavour into your halloumi, corn or fruit.

If you’re entertaining a large group to mark American Independence Day or cheering your Sports team the Oli Drum Charcoal BBQ is a good way to make sure you’re stuck by the cooker all day.

#4 Artisinal with blues and greys Palette

Compliment muted tones and the vivid greens of the garden by choosing furniture in pale blues and greys as suggested by these great ideas from Country Living.

According to the LuxPad, the Luxury Interior Design Magazine, Artisinal is the key word for homeware and interior design trends this year with a return to natural fibres, organic shapes and hand crafted looking accessories.

Locally made and sourced globally, artisanal products can be mixed with mass produced items as well as with vintage finds. Jenny Kakoudakis, Interior Blogger

Denby’s Natural Canvas Stoneware makes the ultimate summer homeware. Combining durability and style and using 200 year old techniques, including firing and glazing, it works both indoors and outdoors. Check them out before the summer sale ends on 10th July for some brilliant savings.

Home Trends blogger At Home with Abby tried out the range “The platter is great for laying out food that we share. It’s all the perfect size and there’s something to hold everything”.

#5 Homemade cocktails

A dash of homemade spirit is a must. Whether its red, white and blue stripes to give you that patriotic all American vibe or a G&T English elegance. Get creative with cocktail popsicles. Guaranteed to give you a great ‘bottoms up’.

    1. Thanks Emma. Yes you can actually order them in the UK, along with some other unusual meats! Happy lolly making :)

  1. Those lollipops with cucumber look fab. I haven’t had any BBQ’S this year yet, but am looking forward to one when we eventually get some sun! I’m loving sharing platters too, so much more yummy things to eat and choose and share.

  2. I agree, those homemade frozen cocktail icelollies look amazing! The summer has been a little bit hit and miss this year so we haven’t had many BBQs. It is starting to be better now but we are still lacking of some permanent sun! I need a proper summer. I miss the peruvian summers sometimes. The photos of the platters look delicious. Thanks so much for sharing this at #KCACOLS, :) x
